PICK OF THE DAY
You cannot miss this event.
In the organizer's words:

Norman Ohler became world-famous as a writer who deals with consciousness, psychedelics and other drugs. The New York Times bestselling author 's latest and fascinating work is about psychedelics, "The Strongest Stuff. Psychedelic Drugs: Weapon, Intoxicant, Medication", this is the focus of our evening. As part of this cultural event, Dr. Andrea & Dr. Henrik Jungaberle will also present the MIND Foundation's current psychedelic consciousness research, innovations in psychology and the first psychedelic day clinic in Europe. After Ohler's reading and the discussion, all guests are then invited to meet and chat with relaxed music, drinks and a breathtaking view over Berlin in the Rondell of the famous Café Kranzler. Norman Ohler will be happy to write dedications for our guests at a book table.

More on the topic of the event:

The book published by Ohler far earlier, in 2015, "Der totale Rausch. Drugs in the Third Reich", published by Ohler far earlier in 2015, is also an international bestseller that attracted a lot of attention beyond Europe, for example in the USA, and has been translated into over 30 languages. In it, he addresses the use of drugs such as Pervitin and opiates during National Socialism and the Second World War. He is now writing about psychedelics. Originally known for his novels, Norman Ohler also became a non-fiction author when he realized that the importance of drugs and psychoactive substances in human history is usually underestimated by historians. He took up the subject and last year published a book entitled: "The strongest substance. Psychedelic drugs: Weapon, Intoxicant, Medicine" - and it is this very book that will be the focus of our attention at the twelfth INSIGHT Forum on October 11, 2024.
Norman Ohler's reading will therefore deal with the dramatic history of psychedelics over the last hundred years. The focus will be on the psychedelic LSD - the strongest substance - and the changing history of this psychoactive substance in the 20th and 21st centuries. Originally intended as a medicine, it was at times used as a weapon in a world marked by the Cold War, only to become a globally criminalized intoxicant and party drug. Today, research is once again being conducted into whether psychedelics can be used as medicines after all; the MIND Foundation, for example, is involved in corresponding clinical studies.

The location where Ohler will give his reading is also historic: Café Kranzler in Berlin on Kurfürstendamm was considered the most famous coffee house in Germany in the last century, with many celebrities coming and going. It closed its doors in 2000 and is now opening its doors for the INSIGHT Forum on October 11. After the reading, as promised, we invite all guests to end the evening upstairs in the Rondell with drinks, good music and a beautiful view.

One of the main aims of the INSIGHT Forum is to raise the public discourse on drugs and psychoactive substances in our society to a scientific and more meaningful level. Norman Ohler has contributed to improving the social discourse with his books. The MIND Foundation, of which the INSIGHT Forum is a part, is also doing this through a clinical study on the psychedelic psilocybin in collaboration with Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the Central Institute of Mental Health in Mannheim. Before the reading, the initiators and co-founders of the MIND Foundation, Dr Andrea Jungaberle and Dr Henrik Jungaberle, will therefore present the work, content and partner organization of this non-profit scientific institution. Incidentally, Norman Ohler's other new publication "Der Zauberberg, die ganze Geschichte" (The Magic Mountain, the whole story), only recently published, will also be available for purchase at the end of the event. A special evening in the spirit of a psychedelic culture of consciousness that should not be missed...
