Austria, mid-18th century. Agnes, a devout believer, is trapped in a loveless marriage. She is expecting a child, but her husband seems uninterested in women. Agnes sees only one cruel way out, which is also compatible with her religion. Anja Plaschg, better known under her musician name Soap&Skin, is a delight as Agnes in this historical film based on true events, which was filmed in the Bergisches Land region and elsewhere. Martin Gschlacht's 35mm cinematography was awarded a Silver Bear at the Berlinale.
