They resemble highly concentrated Zen masters, are coordination geniuses with a fine feeling for the right timing and can make the air shimmer from the wrist. This evening features three jazz drummers who are masters of this game and have made a name for themselves as band leaders and sensitive team players. Anyone who thinks that their art can be measured in BPM and decibel values is criminally misjudging them - above all, they love the interplay between tension, spontaneity and silence.
The internationally acclaimed trio led by Swedish drummer and composer Emil Brandqvist, a master of filigree who refutes pretty much every cliché about his profession. Together with the Finn Tuomas A. Turunen and the Swede Max Thornberg, he creates worlds of sound that are as poetic as they are vivid, which are now streamed tens of millions of times.
She hasn't been able to get away from the drums since she was 11. The multi-award-winning drummer and composer Eva Klesse likes a variety of things. Whether with Julia Hülsmann, Nils Landgren or with her own quartet, the balance between rhythm and melody, between grand gestures and small details, between energy and calm is particularly important to her on the drums. She also proves time and again to be a captivating storyteller who knows how to surprise with subtle nuances of sound.
The fact that Wolfgang Haffner is one of the coolest drummers of his generation has long been known not only in the jazz world. However, like many of the best in his profession, he was never satisfied with just playing the drums and soon began composing and producing. He also continues to discover and support young jazz talents such as our debut artist Simon Oslender, who has since become a regular member of Haffner's trio. With "Silent World", Wolfgang Haffner presents the essence of his work - a combination of cultivated groove, beautiful melodies and a feel for magical moods.
