Ever Montgomery urgently needs to learn to dance for an awards ceremony. However, he detests any physical contact because the professor of geosciences suffers from Asperger's syndrome, a special form of autism.
On the advice of the janitor, he approaches his neighbor Senga Quinn. She is a dancer, but after injuring her leg it is doubtful whether she will ever be able to dance again in her life. So Ever offers her 2153 dollars for a dance lesson. Senga initially rejects this offer as "immoral". But eventually curiosity wins out and they start lessons. Absurd situations quickly develop between the unlikely couple, as Ever takes everything Senga says literally and panics when it comes to the first touches that are unavoidable when dancing.
Mark St. Germain has written a very amusing and touching comedy about two lonely souls who struggle to keep the same beat, but eventually both become brave and surprisingly close.
