The Ellen Auerbach Scholarship for outstanding international photography is awarded to the artist Ilit Azoulay. The prize is based on the estate of the German-American photographer Ellen Auerbach. From the jury's statement: "Ilit Azoulay is being honored for her subtle, kaleidoscopic work, which uses photography in its original, genuine meaning to highlight and clarify the optically unconscious. In her often archival work, she records what could not be seen, interpreting history in the light of the now." Ilit Azoulay was born in Jaffa, has her roots in Morocco and now lives in Berlin. Her sound work Heart to Heart will be presented as part of the EMOP Berlin exhibition "was zwischen uns steht".
