22-year-old singer-songwriter Elmiene (aka Abdala Elamin) mixes soft, flatteringly poetic vocals and raw emotion with a nostalgic flair for early soul and a serious look at contemporary R'n'B in his devotional songs, influenced by 1990s neo-soul icons like D'Angelo while expressing deeply personal experiences that oscillate between masculinity and vulnerability. Following on from his first single "Golden", which immediately attracted a lot of attention in the British soul and club scene, the British-Sudanese singer and composer caused quite a stir last year with his two EPs "EL-MEAN" and "Marking My Time" : almost one million monthly listeners on Spotify and sold-out shows in London, New York and Los Angeles are remarkable successes for a newcomer. Elmiene is currently working on the songs for his debut long-player in the UK and USA. His concert in April 2024 was sold out immediately. Sufficient reason for Elmiene to return to Berlin on December 6 as part of his larger "Got tickets?" tour.

The rise of this gentle young man has been fast-paced in every respect. After studying creative writing in Bournemouth, Abdala Elamin was ready to settle back in Oxford with a job as a security guard - the area where he grew up as a black man among otherwise almost exclusively white people. "I slept on the sofa with my friends a lot at university and sang a bit now and again," he says. "Suddenly people were saying: 'You're the next Stevie Wonder'. I still don't believe that I am or could be one, but if that's what you mean, I'll take it," he laughs.

In 2021, a video in which Elmiene D'Angelo covered "Untitled (How Does It Feel?)" went viral and prompted British star producer Lil Silva to get in touch. Shortly afterwards, they were in the studio together working on "About Us " - a standout track from Lil Silva's acclaimed album "Yesterday Is Heavy". During one of these sessions, BBC Radio 1 DJ Benji B, who was working in the studio next door, came in for a chat and was immediately captivated by a song Elmiene was working on: the gentle, quiet, very percussive "Golden". From this song, which Benji B then presented in his show, things took their course: Elmiene was invited to studio sessions in London with stars such as Sampha and Stormzy - and, as soon as he had given a sold-out show in Los Angeles, with Timbaland and Justin Timberlake.

"EL-MEAN", his debut EP released in early 2023, revealed an artist showing profound development, paired with vocals that gently touch the soul. On the EP, he expressed for the first time the reflective mood triggered by the surprising path his life had taken. His sound leans towards the classic R&B and neo-soul that Elmiene grew up with - but with a light, futuristic touch that fends off the taste of pure nostalgia. His second EP "Marking My Time", released in late 2023, showed the new golden boy of Brit R&B delving deeper into his psyche and successfully searching for a sense of self as an artist in his own right. Elmiene's songs are a soundtrack for those navigating life's difficult path - all the while being captivated by a voice that reflects and touches the soul and spirit. So it's no wonder that his live concerts generate such great euphoria.
