"In the summer of 2023, the Last Generation blocked roads every week, tens of thousands went on strike for the climate with Fridays For Future. A tense unrest arose, to which politicians did not react appropriately either in terms of content or rhetoric. I was carried away and asked myself how I could incorporate these phenomena at the heart of our present into my artistic practice" (Eloain Lovis Hübner)
Bremen is built close to the water. Large parts of the city lie below the mean high water mark, and storm surges and floods have always been part of the city's history. The future scenarios of climate research are not optimistic, as extreme weather events are among the first effects of the climate catastrophe. We are slowly but surely running out of steam. Are we going under soon?
In the "Songs of Rising and Sinking" series, five composers are developing pieces for "Schwankcore " that are dedicated to the ecological, social and emotional consequences of the increasing threat posed by man-made climate change.
Eloain Lovis Hübner contributes the fourth piece, "deckung (versuch 2) [Nature calls quietly, but we are a choir]". The scenic-musical action deals with (climate) activism, its diverse forms of expression and beauty. At the center of the work is the voice as a means of protest.
Eloain Lovis Hübner is a composer, colloborator, lecturer and cultural-political activist. Since 2013, he has created interdisciplinary productions at many venues and festivals, including immersive sound and spatial concepts, an online installation, durationals, music theater for children, a theoretical opera in game show format, participatory formats and projects with amateurs. Vocal music plays a central role in concert performances and often deals with political and historical themes. With the album "n.o.t.i.o.n.s" and the live program "Back on Stage", Eloain created his own performative practice on instruments that he "cannot play". In 2022, Eloain Lovis Hübner presented the evening "Ja, ich bin da im Shantychor" at the Schwankhalle.
