Eröffung: Ayoung Kim. Many Worlds Over

In the organizer's words:

Ayoung Kim's (born 1979 in Seoul, Korea) first solo exhibition in a German museum spans the past five years of her artistic practice.

Using artificial intelligence, virtual reality, video, game simulations, sculptures and sound fictions, Ayoung Kim creates expansive fictional universes with their own temporal and spatial laws. Her works are often linked by speculative narratives that are nevertheless connected to the real world in which we live. The viewers themselves become both spectators and players who can influence the narrative from their perspective.

Ayoung Kim's protagonists are humans, characters, mythological beings and virtual entities that cross the boundaries between different possible realities, allowing possible and impossible worlds to collide across different times and spaces. Her exhibition at Hamburger Bahnhof focuses on migration, xenophobia, queerness as well as bio- and geopolitical issues and looks at the symbiosis between data, people and the planet.

The exhibition is curated by Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath, directors of Hamburger Bahnhof - Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart, and Charlotte Knaup, curator at Hamburger Bahnhof - Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart.
