Humans are only now slowly beginning to understand fungi and their ways of communication. The exhibition by Svenja Wetzenstein and Evita Emersleben shows the results of artistic mycological research: while Svenja Wetzenstein specifically examines the fruiting bodies of mushrooms by making nature studies, capturing spore prints and reports of mushroom trips in pictures, Evita Emersleben takes a more abstract approach. She kisses portraits of people with painted lips. The kissing mouths are reminiscent of proliferating mycelium that forms faces and bodies. Chocolate painting invites transience: Over time, mold grows on it, changing the pictures in terms of color, texture and smell. The dialog between the two positions is understood as a mental network; information, nutrients and ideas are exchanged. May the mycelium proliferate!
