Fiddler! A musical – Ariel Efraim Ashbel and friends (+ Peaches)

"Fiddler on the Roof" (Anatevka) has been one of the most successful musicals in history since its premiere in 1964. The artist group Ariel Efraim Ashbel and friends take the classic as a reference and travel through the traditions of Jewish performance art in Fiddler! A Musical, the artistic group Ariel Efraim Ashbel and friends take the classic as a reference and travel through the traditions of Jewish performance art of the 20th century, exploring them in the context of exile, expulsion and state violence. The piece, which the group has been working on for two years, delves into the underworlds of Jewish mysticism full of demons, witches and ghosts, while Yiddish cabaret, vaudeville, expressive dance, stand-up comedy and the Broadway musical bring the stage landscape to life.

This musical exuberance from the pen of composer Ethan Braun is brought to us by an ensemble of performers, dancers, singers, a live orchestra and guests such as Peaches and the soloist ensemble Kaleidoskop.

"The work on the project began euphorically and solemnly and took a depressing turn later in the rehearsal process. We are shocked by the incomprehensible brutality in Israel and Palestine, by the trivialization of violence, the ignorance of suffering and the rampant dehumanization, as well as by the prejudiced public climate. In the shared dismay at the daily escalating horror, the rehearsal room became a place of mourning, unconditional compassion, humanity and solidarity for us.
