FFT Düsseldorf

The FFT Düsseldorf (Forum Freies Theater) has been in existence since 1999; since 2004 under the artistic direction of Kathrin Tiedemann. It is an international production house for independent performing arts and operates in a network of production houses, theaters and other partners both regionally and internationally. It is part of the Alliance of International Production Houses, funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.

Continuous collaboration with artist collectives characterizes the program, as does the promotion of young artists, cooperation with universities and schools, and exchange with actors in the city. Artistic work with young people and an advanced program for young audiences have been part of the FFT Düsseldorf's profile from the very beginning.

In 2021, the FFT will move into a new venue in the former main post office at Düsseldorf's main train station. The FFT will use the move to a new building as an opportunity for interdisciplinary research into the future role of theater in urban society and in a globalized, digitalized world. In addition to the extensive opening project Place Internationale, in which urban action and artistic action are placed in relation to each other, the Digital Foyer plays a special role. In this project, the FFT, together with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, is testing digital spaces between institution, Internet and urban public.
