Come to FILMFEST UMS ECK and watch the documentary AS THE TIDE COMES IN

Like a face in the sand on the seashore, the Danish island of Mandø is disappearing in the face of the climate catastrophe. With defiant humor and Nordic melancholy, the islanders cling to their identity. Gregers, Mandø's last farmer, bravely faces the approaching end: he refuses to build a life elsewhere and instead hopes to find a wife to run the farm with him. Birdwatcher Niels laments the disappearance of rare birds, Ellen and Ingeborg suffer from moon sickness and Mie celebrates her 100th birthday. But rising sea levels and increasingly extreme weather conditions are making life on the eight-square-kilometer island more and more of a challenge.

JUAN PALACIOS (*1986 in Spain) is a Basque filmmaker and art researcher. His first documentary Pedaló (2016) won an award at the 2016 San Sebastian International Film Festival. In 2019 he was part of the Berlinale Talents.
