Forró-Workshop mit Cuatro Piraguas und Forró do Chamego

Have you always wanted to know how to dance Forró? Together with dancers from Forró do Chamego e.V. and the Leipzig band Cuatro Piraguas, you can get a little insight and try it out for yourself!

Forró is a Brazilian music style and couple dance that has its roots in the Sertão in north-eastern Brazil. Forró is danced in both closed and open positions. The music is very varied, rhythmic and lively - as is the dance, which can be fast, cheerful and full of energy at times and slow and sensual at others. The focus is on the connection and communication between the dance partners rather than fixed choreographies.

Cuatro Piraguas (Four Ships) see themselves as carriers of the various melodies and rhythms of Latin America and the Caribbean. With affection and respect, they search for a connection to our time in the roots of this music.

In this edition of Roots & Sprouts, the quartet will accompany the Forró dance workshop with a special dance repertoire of classics from the northeast of Brazil.
