Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek combine elements of psychedelic, jazz and Anatolian folklore in their music. The group led by Derya Yıldırım from Hamburg has been spearheading Turkish-European crossover for several years. The singer and multi-instrumentalist learned piano, guitar, ud, saxophone and bağlama from an early age. From 2013 to 2016, she studied at the Hamburg University of Music and continued her studies in bağlama with Taner Akyol at the Berlin University of the Arts. Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek constantly rearranges the rich traditional Turkish poetry and takes it into the future without losing awareness of the past.
