Art - Film - Poetry
Gertrude A. Malizeni's art is about women who came before her and the women who are yet to come. She raises her voice against the things that devalue women and make them feel less worthy. And she reminds us of the special strengths of women, their beauty and their abilities that creation has entrusted to them.

KWENYE UWEPO WA MWANAMKE - IN THE PRESENCE OF WOMEN (10:40 min.)
This cinematic work of art is inspired by the memory of the unwavering strength and sacrifice of the director's late mother. It honors the diverse and often underappreciated contributions of women as the foundation of our lives and serves as a tribute to their everyday appreciation.
MAMA MISHE - HUSTLING MAMA (working under pressure) (21:57 min.)
The film highlights the often overlooked economic importance of women's work in the informal sector of Dar es Salaam. Filmmaker Gertrude interviews women food vendors, vegetable farmers, hairdressers and a tailor to highlight their essential role in everyday urban life and initiate a discussion about their indispensable contributions.
SEMENI - SUAHELI FOR "SPEAKING" (11:38 min.)
Semeni tells the story of the director's struggle with the complexities of being an outspoken woman in a society characterized by traditional gender roles, and reflects on her grandmother's warnings that her curiosity and questioning of social expectations would put a strain on her future relationships with men. The plot of the film is strongly autobiographical and thus takes on a special intensity.
