The cultural heritage of Iran and the Persian Empire is rich and forms the identity of the people whose roots lie in the Islamic Republic. However, censorship and bans imposed by the repressive political system there have been threatening artistic freedom for years and suppressing the work of cultural actors. However, many artists are taking an offensive and creative approach to the red lines and using art to express their protest stance.

Following GOLE SANGAM, Donya Ahmadifar and Daniela Rodriguez Romero will talk about expressing criticism through art, artistic freedom in a repressive system and the current protest movement in Iran. Moderated by Yasemin Said (Perspectives Leipzig), the significance of music and dance, tradition and modernity in the context of migration and identity will be examined. What power do cultural forms of expression have when it comes to freedom movements between struggle and rigidity in Iran? How resistant can freestyle culture be? How does resistance manifest itself in the solo dance piece GOLE SANGAM?
