Kurfürst Friedrich der Weise von Sachsen: Zum 500. Todestag des Schutzherrn der Reformation

Elector Frederick the Wise of Saxony died on May 5, 1525 and remains one of the most famous princes in the history of Saxony and the Reformation in general. Although Frederick owed his popularity primarily to his role as patron of Martin Luther and the Reformation, he also left a lasting mark on history as founder of the University of Wittenberg, patron of important artists such as Lucas Cranach, collector of relics and imperial politician.

The lecture by Prof. Dr. Armin Kohle will present the Elector as a personality on the threshold between the late Middle Ages and the beginning of the modern era and, in particular, trace his politics in the first years of the Reformation, which were not easy to understand.
