Lectures and talks on the occasion of the International Day against Violence against Women - November 24, 2024 at 11 a.m. - Schauspielhaus, Foyer

Women with disabilities are more frequently affected by gender-based violence than the average woman in the population. Many have experienced sexualized violence in their childhood, and this often continues into adulthood. Especially if the women live in institutions for the disabled. The event aims to raise awareness of the special needs of women with disabilities and address existing barriers to violence support. The International Day against Violence against Women and Girls has been celebrated since 1981. The historical background was the abduction and murder of three women by soldiers in the Dominican Republic. With inputs from Karin Heisecke on the Istanbul Convention and Claudia Seipelt-Holtmann (NetzwerkBüro Frauen und Mädchen mit Behinderung/chronischer Erkrankung NRW) on the topic of protection against violence. There will also be talks with women from the Disability Council on the situation in Düsseldorf.
