GOLD Thomas Arslan D/Canada 2013 OmeU 101' Canada 1898, the height of the gold rush. A small group of German emigrants set off for the gold fields on the Klondike River with horses, covered wagons, roasted onion powder, cameras and banjos in the hope of a better life. Emily Meyer (Nina Hoss), a single woman, is also along for the ride. The wilderness becomes denser, disorientation grows, complications arise (broken wheel, bear trap), exhaustion and conflict set in. But even when the trek is already decimated, Emily does not turn back. Based on testimonies from that time, Arslan tells a historical story for the first time - in the form of a late western. Accompanied by rough guitar riffs, interrupted by fades to black, he focuses on the monotony and repetitiveness of the grueling journey and the barrenness of the landscape.
