We cordially invite you to an evening of film and performance with the artist duo OJOBOCA (Anja Dornieden and Juan David González Monroy) reimagining lost works, little-known in cinema history, through the act of reconstruction.
Please join us to watch together these two films:
Instant Life (16mm, 27 min, 2022), co-directed with Andrew Kim, is a shot-for-shot remake of a lost 1981 film - itself a remake of the original Instant Life (1941). The earlier film is lost, along with the answer to a riddle it posed to its audience. This new version attempts to reveal the mystery of the riddle - though no solution exists.
Distant Feeler (35mm slides, 36 min, 2022), OJOBOCA resurrects a device conceived by the artist duo Goliatus & Carábida in their attempt to create a telepathic cinema. Using recovered fragments and slides, they offer their own reconstruction of the mechanism, demonstrate its effects, and present Goliatus & Carábida's original manifesto.
OJOBOCA is a Berlin-based artist duo formed by Anja Dornieden and Juan David González Monroy. Their artistic practice focuses on photochemical film and explores cinema as a social ritual. OJOBOCA's films, installations, and expanded cinema performances have been shown in numerous solo and group presentations, that have been screened at film festivals and art venues worldwide.
FUNDING This event is part of our longtime project UNITED SCREENS and is funded within the 15-months-long programme TRANSITIONS, supported by Die Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien.
