A theater assembly "In the name of freedom "with cultural scientist Sibylle Peters and actors from the ensemble - on December 7, 2024 - Schauspielhaus, Kleines Haus
Few things are as bitterly debated as freedom. After theater gatherings in Hamburg, Frankfurt, Cottbus and Halle, the reflection on this value will now continue in Düsseldorf. This time, the focus is on artistic and academic freedom. Education is a right for everyone. However, although it is enshrined in constitutional law, access to education is blocked for many from an early age - due to social inequalities or a lack of privileges. What value of freedom do we attach to education, art and research? Is education as the reproduction of knowledge still suitable for preparing us for the future?
After a keynote speech by Hamburg cultural scientist and artist Sibylle Peters and an artistic impulse by members of the Schauspielensemble, you are invited to debate fundamental aspects of freedom. In the "fishbowl" format, you can get into conversation with experts from science and art at eye level - or simply continue listening. Afterwards, you can continue the discussion in table discussions. By listening and communicating with each other, the theater becomes a place of public negotiation, a democratic practice of freedom in the tradition of European theater. - Free admission - tickets available at the box office
