I've Got You

In the organizer's words:

The exhibition I've Got You features large-scale paintings by Antonia Freisburger, Pia Krajewski, and Antonia Rodrian, who here explore the boundaries between observation and fiction, abstraction and figuration.

Antonia Freisburger's paintings spring from the pure unknown, the idea of other spheres, otherworldly materials, and intangible universes. Her paintings offer no hint of dimensions. Looking into her color gradients, the eye can lose itself in a vast, unknown universe. On the other hand, Antonia Freisburger's forms might allude to the opposite direction of scale: observing the tiniest form of extraterrestrial life.

The core of Pia Krajewski's paintings seems to be located in terrestrial realms. They show details of surfaces and objects, though it remains unclear whether these are man-made or drawn from nature. Pia Krajewski's paintings follow a constructive logic, as if they had a clear model, a form that Krajewski might have found while walking through a forest or looking at the details of a wrinkled shirt. On closer inspection, however, her objects rather stem from a confluence of both observation and imagination.

Antonia Rodrian's paintings show concrete everyday objects and actions. Groups of things or tools in the process of changing states become part of a fiction in which they are transformed into a mere idea of what they originally were. The shadows of the objects follow compositional choices and the objects dissolve in a collective, communal act; stripped of their contexts by repetition and formal structures.

Antonia Freisburger, Pia Krajewski and Antonia Rodrian studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. They live and work in Berlin and Düsseldorf.

In 2017, they jointly founded the exhibition space sonneundsolche, where they continue to curate exhibitions with national and international artists.
