In this adaptation of Ray's crime novel of the same name, detective Feluda becomes involved in the theft of a valuable statue of the god Ganesh (the "Elephant God") while on vacation in the holy city of Benares. When a murder occurs, more suspects come into Feluda's focus. "The movie could be Ray's nod to John Huston's detective classic The Maltese Falcon.
