The poems in this program are shrouded in a mystery that may never be fully revealed. Is the author a little girl, aged seven, eight, nine? The doubters are on the scene!
At a first meeting at Pasternak's house in Peredelkino, Yevgeny Yevtushenko asks Nika to recite some of her poems to him. He is immediately certain: only poets can speak like that.
The doubts and suspicions do not diminish over the years, but they contradict each other in some details. Aleksandr Ratner's book "The Secrets of Nika Turbina's Life" was published in 2018, suggesting that Nika never wrote a verse herself. However, there is no definitive proof.
The poems, however, do exist. With the help of his companion, the Slavicist Kerstin Hommel, the poet-singer Frank Viehweg has translated 125 of them into German, published in 2019 in the book "Wermutkraut". He has set eighteen of them to music. In a joint literary-musical program, Kerstin and Frank present a selection of Nika's verses in both German and Russian.
