The filmmaker grew up in a village in Kenya. As a young girl, she endured female genital mutilation without realizing the serious consequences it would have on her life. She later learns that there are new surgical methods that promise to give back what was lost. Beryl explores this personal and political issue by talking to other women who have had similar experiences. And she confronts her own family with her questions with astonishing openness.
