Lia, a retired teacher in Georgia, learns from her young neighbor Achi that her long-lost niece Tekla, a trans woman, is now living in Turkey. Hoping to bring Tekla back home after a long estrangement, Lia travels to Istanbul with the unpredictable Achi to track her down. On their forays through the hidden corners of the city, they meet the trans lawyer Evrim, who helps them in their search. The new film by acclaimed director Levan Akin(When We Danced, Interview with the Vampire) is a moving and tender story about identity, acceptance and unlikely bonds across borders and generations. "Levan Akin's fourth feature film captivates with its emotional immediacy: two initially hesitant strangers overcome not only ideological but also inner boundaries on their mission and make common cause. The topography of the city plays just as big a role in this ode to humanity as the cast of characters that populate it." Berlinale Panorama 2024 kino-zukunft.de/crossing-levan-akin
