Klang & Realität #2 – Nathalie Brum, kitno

In the organizer's words:

The Sound & Reality series presents a multi-layered selection of sound and music realizations by participants in the course of the same name at the Institute for Music and Media at the Robert Schumann University of Music.
Phillip Schulze curates acoustic works, music groups and sound installations between experiment and pop, structure and freedom, fiction and reality.

Nathalie Brum is a sound and media artist and architect. She has lived and worked in Cologne since 2014. In her work, sound and space form a unity. She loves fluid transitions: from everyday life to art, from the concrete to the enigmatic, from technology to poetry. Brum sees her site-specific installations as an instrument for a new perception and appropriation of space. She transforms the sounds of hidden infrastructures into electro-acoustic compositions. The locations are diverse: swimming pools, highway churches, city squares, opera houses. In 2014 she completed her studies in architecture at the RWTH and in 2021 her studies in transmedia forms at the Institute for Music and Media at the RSH Düsseldorf. In 2022, she received the NRW State Prize for Young Artists in the Visual Arts category.

kitno are three voices in exchange, sometimes lovingly whispering, sometimes threateningly roaring, soon screeching and arguing, only to reconcile again and tell a story. With guitar, drums and no input mixing, the trio moves between electronic ambient, algorithmic krautrock and polyrhythmic noise pop.

The grapefruits fanzine is celebrating the publication of its eighth issue with a listening session this evening. The magazine has been around for five years. The current issue revolves around the topic of voice. It contains articles about Anjeline, Arca, Lucrecia Dalt, Sanni Est, Holly Herndon, Sofia Jernberg, Minwhi Lee, Poly Styrene, Verity Susman and Tenesha The Wordsmith. At this event, the authors will present the eighth edition as part of a listening session in which they will present the texts about the artists portrayed and listen to their music together with the audience.
