Ngozi Ajah Schommers is a German-Nigerian artist who deals with themes such as identity, equality, colonialism and cultures of remembrance. Schommers often develops her performances, objects and serial works based on her own body and questions the collective experiences of women. In 2017, the Bremen-based artist showed an impressive installation at the Kunsthalle in the exhibition Der Blinde Fleck. Bremen and Art in the Colonial Era and is currently taking part in exhibitions in Frankfurt, Paris and Cambridge. Schommers was recently honored with the HAP Grieshaber Prize of the Stiftung Kulturwerk der VG Bild-Kunst.
On October 8, Ngozi Schommers will be a guest at the Kunsthalle Bremen. She will be talking to art historian Dr. Kea Wienand (University of Oldenburg) about her newly published monographic catalog ngozi ajah schommers: tracings of time and place and looking with us at her multi-layered artistic work.
