Bremen residents from disadvantaged neighborhoods with many social problems such as high poverty or unemployment rates are sick more often and die earlier. That is a sad fact. It is also a fact that they have poorer healthcare on their doorstep than people in affluent neighborhoods. For example, there are too few family doctors, pediatricians and psychotherapists in Bremen North or Gröpelingen, while there are too many in Schwachhausen. There is a similar problem with the supply of midwives. In Gröpelingen or Bremen North, only three out of ten women are cared for by a midwife after giving birth, compared to nine out of ten women in Schwachhausen or the eastern suburbs.
These inequalities have existed for years. But why is it like this? And why has it not yet been possible to make this inequitable care in the neighborhoods fundamentally fairer? What should politicians do in the future to make a healthy life possible in every neighborhood in the state of Bremen?
We want to discuss these pressing questions with experts from the field in Bremen. We cordially invite you to our discussion event on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 7 p.m. in Café Tante Martin.
