Jacques Brel & Francois Villon - two great poets and poets
Intoxicated by himself and life, Jacques Brel (*1929) broke all boundaries. In his chansons, he took the audience with him on his travels and escapes, shared his affairs, deep friendships, the search for childhood, as well as the fear of old age and death. He gave up his singing career, tried his hand at directing and writing, devoted himself to sailing and flying and finally found his refuge on an island in the Pacific.
Brel staged his life like a director, enthusiastic, full of doubts, generous and unbearable, a gambler, an artist of repression, but above all a creative person who was inspired by others. This was also the case with Francois Villon (1431*), born in the year Joan of Arc was burned at the stake.
Villon grew up in a clerical household, the foster son of a priest who enabled him to study at the Sorbonne. He also led a wild life in the streets and dives of the English-occupied city. Hungry for knowledge, mocking, ingenious and powerful, he was imprisoned several times, tortured, sentenced to death, released, exiled and disappeared without a trace in his early 30s. Villon's songs and ballads give an idea of the effects of the Hundred Years' War - in a society in which a life did not count for much.
