The Parisian courtesan Violetta Valéry became a legend at the hands of Giuseppe Verdi and has lost none of her fascination to this day. "She Who Lost Her Way", as the title literally translates, focuses on a woman who moves outside the socially accepted paths and yet - or precisely because of this - is always the center of public attention. Alfredo, too, is attracted to her, and he conjures up his love until Violetta gives in and follows her feelings. The two retreat from the hustle and bustle of Paris to a secluded country estate. But their intimate happiness, financed by Violetta, is shattered when Alfredo's father Giorgio Germont arrives. He cannot allow Violetta's reputation to jeopardize that of his family ...
In La traviata, Giuseppe Verdi chooses a contemporary subject that has lost little of its topicality since its premiere in 1853: What are we capable of out of love? Who determines social conventions? And what comes to light when these gradually crumble?
