Lesung und Gespräch mit Tonio Schachinger (Deutscher Buchpreisträger 2023)

Ever since he was awarded the German Book Prize 2023, Austrian Tonio Schachinger has been considered one of the most important young voices in German-language literature. On this evening, Schachinger will read from his novel "Echtzeitalter", for which he received the German Book Prize last year.

"Echtzeitalter " is about the life of schoolboy Till Korkan. Schachinger skillfully tells the story of Till's life between the snobbish Viennese elite boarding school and the real-time strategy game Age of Empires 2 and what challenges life still has in store for the young pupil.

To mark the 2024 European Football Championship in Germany, the author will also be reading from his debut novel. In " Nicht wie ihr", published in 2019, Schachinger tells the story of the life of professional footballer Ivo. He earns 100,000 euros a week, drives a Bugatti, has a wife and two children whom he loves more than anything. However, when his childhood sweetheart Mirna comes into the picture, the secure structure begins to totter.

Tonio Schachinger will talk about his two novels, the current European Championship and much more with Austrian-Liechtenstein author Benjamin Quaderer(Für immer Alpen, 2020).

The book table for this evening will be put together by the renowned bookstore Uslar und Rai (Prenzlauerberg, Berlin).
