In the organizer's words:
This is a special Saturday night 5Rhythms Dance. It is an opportunity to dance between the years, bringing curiosity to the space between 'what was' and 'what will be'.
No previous 5Rhythms or other experience is required.
As the year draws to a close, we will honor all that has come to pass and welcome the unknown of new beginnings - the magical space of intentional co-creation in the empty space. What sensations would you like to call in? What stories would you like to weave? What mystery are you seeking to let in?
These are the open ended, curious questions we will take into the 5Rhythms map, exploring life's 5 essential energies.
To support this theme, we'll include a little something special / different as part of our dance together.
You are invited (of course, not required) to bring an object with you to place on an installation to evoke magic and/or abundance into 2025!
Please arrive on time for this special dance.
During the evening, you'll be guided by an eclectic mix of music and inspirational prompts, inviting you to tune into your body, connect with yourself and to follow intuitive movement moment by moment. There are no "right" or "wrong" ways to move here - just an open invitation to discover and express yourself.
Using the 5Rhythms framework, we will explore 5 fundamental life energies (rhythms) through the dance. The music is played like a "wave" where it goes up and comes back down again. There are 3 essential ingredients to each event:
- Freedom to be: You're invited to let go of the thinking mind, explore physical and emotional landscapes without any pressure of performance or "getting it right"
- Invitations, not instructions: You'll receive impulses and ideas to explore different aspects of movement and self-expression. Most importantly, you'll be encouraged to follow what feels true for you.
- Presence: Dance becomes a meditation in motion, inviting presence directly through the body in each movement. As you feel the music and let the dance move you, your thoughts will be allowed to quiet down.
Perhaps you want to release tension from daily life and connect with your body? Or, you really love good music and want to dance outside the club space? Or, you're curious to find greater freedom in your body ...
Maybe you've danced 1000 times, or never before. Wherever, however, come as you are and give yourself the permission to dance, to be curious and to meet yourself in ways you might never have imagined.
x-dance is an open and non-judgemental space that invites you to come exactly as you are. No previous dance or other experience required.
Doors open at 19.15 and close promptly at 19.45. Please note entry after 19.45 isn't possible.
- Welcome + Introduction: After a guided warm-up through the body, we'll have a general welcome and introduction to the theme for the evening before we go into the dance.
- Dance + Music: Let go of any preconceived notions you might have about dance. Unlike anything you've experienced before, there is no choreography or special moves in this space. The music is played in a form of a wave where the rhythms will rise to a crescendo and then gently fall - and you'll get to discover how it feels to move to those beats, moment by moment. During the dance, you'll be guided with some words of inspiration and invitations (never instructions) to enhance your experience.
- Gathering after class: Once the official dance is over, we open the space for all who want to stay and connect. There will be snacks, opportunities for exchange and spaces for quiet reflections, too.
- No phones: To allow for greatest spontaneity, creativity and freedom of expression, no phones on the dance floor.
- A water bottle, there is a bathroom to fill up your water bottles.
- Indoor shoes optional - most people dane barefoot.
- Clothing that feels good - easy to move and sweat in. And maybe a towel (for your sweat :-))
- Cleansing x-dance begins at 19.30 and doors open at 19.15. Please be on time for our journey together. We close the doors promptly at 19.45 to help us create a positive holding for the evening and for safety measures.
- Please do not talk on the dance floor so you, and others, can drop into movement, sounds and noises without the distraction of words.
- Please do not use your cell phone during this time so you can stay present and alive in your dance.
- When you love a track, just ask after class (not during the dance :-)) so you can enjoy that moment fully in all its glory.
- Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable to a future date if you are unable to join. However, you may personally pass on your ticket to someone else. In this case, please let me know via an email the name of the person taking your spot. Thank you for understanding and helping to keep the dance alive!
