Marie Krüttli Trio

Marie Krüttli's solo debut "Transparence" was recently released, followed by a new trio recording in the fall: the Berlin-based Swiss pianist, who hovers between jazz, impressionism and avant-garde, has earned herself an excellent reputation in recent years, even though she is only in her early 30s. David Murray once called her "phenomenal", Gregor Dotzauer raves about "the determination of her abstract spirit".

What is meant by this is that she does not try to fall into the cliché trap of traditional jazz; even when she takes on a standard, she strips it of all ornamentation and distractions until a brilliant core emerges. However, there is no coolness in the improvisational development of motifs, working with dissonant, seductive chord sequences, but something like undisguised beauty. Together with long-term accompanist Lukas Traxel on bass and drummer Gautier Garrigue, this art of reduction takes on something expressively magical.
