Mit anderen Augen

In the organizer's words:

Mit anderen Augen is a touching theatrical collage of songs, texts, images, sounds and sensory impressions that poetically delves into the world of blindness. We live in a society of the sighted. From "goodbye" to the blind alarm to love at first sight, our language is full of metaphors of seeing. Knowledge and rationality are often associated with light and sight, whereas immaturity and irrationality are associated with images of blindness and darkness. The world of blindness is completely unknown to many of us, we rarely or never talk about it, partly because we are not affected - or because we are afraid of it.

And so our lives are built on sight. But what happens when this requirement is not met? What space do blind or visually impaired people find themselves in? What does time mean to them? What do sounds and noises tell them? Can you see with your ears? These and other questions are explored in Mit anderen Augen.

In this musical evening, texts by blind and visually impaired people and the lyrics of the songs sung live direct our thoughts, our feelings and our perception away from the visual and towards other senses such as hearing. Not as a substitute, perhaps as a benefit. Mit anderen Augen uses musical and acoustic means to explore seeing and not seeing and creates sensual and emotional experiences. The eight players and musicians find themselves in a space that moves between darkness, blurriness, bright light and the absence of strong colors. The production attempts to make the performance accessible to non-sighted viewers, also with the help of audio description. More than worth seeing!
