To celebrate their 35th anniversary, US rock band Monster Magnet are going on tour - bringing the best of over ten studio albums to the stage. The four men from New Jersey began their musical journey in the early nineties and already demonstrated an exciting rock sound with psychedelia excursions and krautrock influences in their self-titled debut EP "Monster Magnet" in 1990, which was primarily inspired by the space rock of the 1970s. This kicked off a tightly timed release schedule that began with the debut album "Spine of God" in 1991 and continued with new material every two to three years. The follow-up album "Dopes To Infinity" was still in the psychedelic, deliberately confused sound range before Monster Magnet turned to pure rock in 1998 with "Powertrip" - and thus landed their most commercially successful album, which even made it into the charts with the single "Space Lord". The albums "Mastermind" and "Lost Patrol", which were not released until a few years later due to drug excesses and an overdose by singer and guitarist Dave Wyndorf, also reached high positions in the charts. Incidentally, Wyndorf is the only remaining founding member of the rock group and is therefore also part of Monster Magnet's current work, "Test Patterns: Vol.1", which consists of just one song - the track "Tab", which was released back in 1991. The song is over 24 minutes long and comes in two versions: One as an original version remixed in 2021 and once a demo version created in 1988 but never released. It remains to be seen whether the extra-long track will find a place on the anniversary tour - but anyone who visits one of the eight German tour stops in October will find out sooner or later.
