In the organizer's words:
The wartime rituals of violence against women never change. From the accounts of Ukrainian, Belarusian and Polish mothers and children who fled war and persecution, the Polish director and founder of the Political Voice Institute, Marta Górnicka, creates a choral theater piece.
In it, together with the group of Ukrainian, Polish and Belarusian women of different generations, she relates their present-day experiences to the traditional Ukrainian ritual song Shchedrivka / Щедрівка. In Mothers - A Song for the Wartime, they search for a new, ritual, post-operatic choral voice that refers to women's choirs from the seventh century BC. Their singing becomes an accusation, a call, a plea, a warning. Ukrainian children's games, traditional songs, magic spells, poems, wishes and political statements meet in it, in the hope that what is expressed may come true. These ritual-melodic wishes are now addressed to all people, for a new, hopeful time, for a time we hope will last a lifetime.
