New Wave
Elizabeth Ai / USA / 2024 / 88 min. / German premiere

Highly styled hair, underground parties and a new mix of rock and punk music that emerged in the 80s: New Wave. Carried by the sounds of the music, director Elizabeth Ai takes a personal and vulnerable look back at her own past. As a young mother, the Vietnamese-American filmmaker reflects on her childhood, when she grew up with her aunt, and her difficult relationship with her own mother. Together with singer Lynda Trang Đài and Ian DJ BPM Nguyen, she immerses herself in the nostalgia of New Wave music.

Accompanied by the sounds of its music, director Elizabeth Ai takes a personal and vulnerable look back at her own past.
