When Wiglaf Droste died in 2019, an era also ended for junge Welt: he had been one of its most important authors since the mid-1990s, and from 2010 even its in-house poet with a daily column - always fighting against the idiocy of existence. For 21 years, Christof Meueler was Wiglaf's editor in charge of the jW-Feuilleton. Now he has written the first biography of Droste. In it, he describes Droste's long journey from school newspaper writer and up-and-coming rock singer in Bielefeld to one of the most feared polemicists in the German language, his great successes and scandals, but also his battle with addiction and his early death. The discussion with jW features editor Peter Merg will focus primarily on the political Droste.
