PINA BERLIN...sings Turkish standards
On December 12, it's "Back to the Roots" for Pina Berlin, because the singer-songwriter's musical roots lie in both Turkish music and jazz. Pina Berlin, the alter ego of musician and Berliner-by-choice Pinar Tatlikazan, accompanies her on her journey to realize her dream: To touch people through music, to capture emotions in sounds and to create connections. If you are wondering what Turkish jazz is, come to the Brotfabrik on 12.12.24 and experience Pina Berlin live with her international trio of Berlin jazz musicians.
Combined with elements of jazz music, you can expect an eclectic mix: from singer-songwriter anthems of the 80s to the psychedelic rock of the 70s to folk standards and modern tango. She also uses loops and effects to expand the sonic possibilities, pushing the boundaries of traditional sound and creating a multi-faceted listening experience.
More about Pinar Tatlikazan:
Pinar Tatlikazan is a singer, songwriter and vocal teacher, born in Bursa, raised in Istanbul and living in Berlin since 2010. Her musical journey began with classical vocal training in Istanbul, followed by studies with renowned jazz musicians in Berlin, Istanbul and Massachusetts. In addition to her voice, she also masters the saxophone and ukulele. Under her stage name "Pina Berlin", she has released seven singles and one album, which have been nominated several times. In her songs, she explores themes such as human interaction and self-discovery, striking a balance between self-reflection and motivational messages.
Fusing different cultural influences and musical genres, Pinar seeks to infuse her music with empathy, positivity and hope - in the midst of a hectic world characterized by individualism. Her path to music, however, was unconventional: she initially studied architecture in Berlin and led a double life until a burnout and the onset of fibromyalgia forced her to recognize her true calling. She decided to pursue music and has since worked with renowned musicians and performed on prestigious stages in Berlin and Istanbul.
She is currently pursuing her dream and studying "Music and Movement - Rhythmics" at the Berlin University of the Arts, majoring in jazz singing. Here she explores the connection between music and movement, which she discovered for herself through her health journey, in an experimental and improvisational context.
