On September 14, 2024, a parade will set in motion at the summer festival of the 'Schlange' housing estate.
In it, people and groups will gather around their own creative contributions to the future of the urban highway.
Under the title "Autobahnschlange", artist Klara Kroymann invites citizens to embark on a journey through the various dimensions of this urban conversation.
The parade will be a colorful and approachable staging of individual references to the city highway.
Participants can expect a huge walkable and wearable figure 'Gauze and Concrete', which takes up the theme of the highway materially. They are invited to indulge in absurd rededication fantasies, put it on their heads and join in the parade. The heart of this highway snake is a mobile box from which a polyphonic urban conversation about the Schlangenbad highway tunnel can be heard.
Over the past few months, Klara Kroymann has initiated an urban conversation that has been recorded in audio interviews.
These conversations, which move from the documentary to the Dadaist, invite all interested parties to reflect together on visions and fantasies about the freeway.
The voices of local residents and activists recorded in the audio text form the basis for visual works that will be presented as part of the parade.
Political positions clash: while the tenants of the Schlangenbader Tunnel initiative are fighting for the restoration of the highway tunnel in the spirit of the car-friendly city,
the activists of the Breitenbachplatz citizens' initiative are campaigning for the rededication of the highway tunnel and the highway bridge. In addition, the artists' colony at
Breitenbachplatz is intensively interested in the roots of freeway construction under National Socialism.
The "Autobahnschlange" parade thus offers not only a platform for artistic expression,
but also a framework for a lively dialog about the design of our urban environment.
It invites you to be there and share your own ideas and associations with the urban freeway.
