Queerreality- New Realms of Surrealism

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Surrealist Manifesto, the group exhibition Queerreality - New Realms of Surrealism brings together ten artists from Germany and Turkey to explore the connections and differences between surrealism and queerfeminist art. From pop-surrealist to hybrid in-between worlds, from alternative realities to dreams and the night, the artists create a dialog that spans time and communities, challenges the heteronormative order and questions identities. On display are innovative works by queer, feminist and (post-)migrant artists who are inspired by classical surrealism and boldly criticize and reinterpret its principles. The exhibition takes place in the Kulturbunker in Cologne-Mülheim - a former World War II bunker - now a safe space for diverse communities - and transforms the bunker into a vibrant, inclusive "queer reality" that celebrates diversity.

The exhibition is curated by Eva Liedtjens (NEOLA art projects e.V.) and Aylime Aslı Demir (Ankara Queer Art Program) and is a project of NEOLA art projects e.V., a non-profit cultural association based in Cologne that promotes contemporary art and culture from Turkey and Germany. The aim of the association is to make artistic productions of the (post-)migrant society visible, to promote the exchange between (young) artists and to enrich cultural diversity

The exhibition is part of the joint project "Kuir Art Fest" by Kulturbunker - Köln Mülheim e.V., Iç Içe - Festival for New Anatolian Music and NEOLA art projects e.V., funded by the Cultural Office of the City of Cologne and Soziokultur NRW.
