Ryoji Ikeda presents ultratronics

The justification of aesthetic production through the emergent formal properties of fundamental mathematical elements is an important theme in the development of contemporary art. The Japanese artist Ryoji Ikeda stands as an outstanding exponent in this tradition. Berlin Atonal is proud to present the German version of Ikeda's latest large-scale audiovisual project ultratronics (live set) in collaboration with silent green. The new performance is based on the universalist principles of Ikeda's last recorded work ultratronics, which was released in 2022 for the first time in over a decade and includes material from 1989 to 1999 as well as more recent compositions from 2013 to 2022.

ultratronics (live set) is the culmination of Ikeda's career-long obsession with data-driven research and the way the perceiving subject experiences sonic and visual phenomena, especially when taken to extremes. His audiovisual shows are operations with a specific mathematical-symbolic structure that are temporal artworks of pure tones, sine waves, white noise and light.
