There is no alternative to the expansion of renewable energy infrastructure. However, this expansion and the associated demand for metal must not lead to new global injustices, human rights violations and environmental destruction.
PowerShift e.V. emphasizes the urgency of transforming our use of raw materials in the sense of a raw materials transition. The lecture will highlight the effects of mining and describe the potential for reducing the ecological and social impact of metal use. Solutions will be presented for a comprehensive energy transition, a mobility transition and greater use of the circular economy, taking into account human rights due diligence obligations.
