Schumanns Klang-Salon II – Pioniere des Schumann-Lieds

In the organizer's words:

Although Robert Schumann's songs were almost omnipresent in 19th century Germany, public song recitals were not considered an independent, highly artistic achievement at the time. The concert form of the "Liederabend" is therefore closely linked to the names of the performing artists, as is the reception of Schumann's Lieder.

The Klang-Salon would like to recall key interpreters of the Schumann Lied in the 19th and early 20th centuries and revive their vocal artistry for one evening using historical sound documents.

Recordings by Marianne Brandt, Joseph Gustav Walter, Julia Culp, Thom Denijs and others with introductory comments and contexts.
