Seniorentheater SeTA – Der Untergang der Excelsior

In the organizer's words:

At the beginning of February 1866, the merchant ship Excelsior runs aground in heavy seas off the coast of the island of Juist and sinks. 22 shipwrecked people manage to save themselves on a mast. They are clearly visible from Juist. Plans are made to rescue them on the island. But bad weather, a lack of expertise, bureaucracy and selfishness delay the rescue by more than a week. There are numerous other casualties.

With The Sinking of the Excelsior, the SeTA presents the world premiere of the excellently researched chronicle of the disaster by Georg W. Kampfer in a theater version by Kathrin Sievers. A bitterly comedic play about human failure in disaster management.
