Shifting Borders, Fluid Landscapes

In the organizer's words:

When borders shift, when landscapes change...

The photo exhibition in the foyer of the University Library reveals the industrial past of Eastern Europe to the Regensburg public.

The focus is on two old industrial regions, Donbas and Upper Silesia. Upper Silesia - a region once located between Germany and Poland - experienced numerous border shifts and structural changes before finally adapting to the realities of a post-industrial era. In contrast to this is the Donbas, a mining region in eastern Ukraine, which has experienced a profound turning point due to the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war.

Although the exhibition does not explicitly address the war in the Donbas, the typological similarity of the landscapes - on and below ground - makes the discontinuity of developments in both regions all the clearer.

The exhibition shows works by four outstanding artists whose life stories are closely linked to the regions depicted: Viktor Marushchenko (1946-2020), Karolina Jonderko (*1985), Alexander Chekmenev (*1969) and Michał Cała (*1948).
