The symphony orchestra of the Bremen University of the Arts presents a foretaste of its concert "An emotional rollercoaster" on June 11 at the Konzerthaus Glocke.
The program:
Dmitri Shostakovich: Hamlet Suite op. 32a
Conductor: Prof. Thomas Klug
About the work:
In 1931/32, Shostakovich created incidental music for director Nikolai Akimoveine's production of Hamlet, which took up the atmosphere of the avant-garde Moscow production and set it to music. This Hamlet was not a noble tragedy, but a dark, absurd satire. The work consists of 50 individual musical numbers. In the year of its premiere in 1932, Shostakovich composed his brilliant Suite Hamlet op. 32a based on this incidental music, which will be performed by the HfK orchestra.
