Women in Landscapes - Award-winning documentary film (D, 2023), followed by a discussion with the director Sabine Michel

Four women with an East German past who work in political leadership positions are followed over the course of three years in this documentary. Anke Domscheit-Berg, Yvonne Magwas, Frauke Petry and Manuela Schwesig grew up in the GDR, where having working mothers was taken for granted, while at the same time many women in West Germany were primarily responsible for the home and children. All four were strongly influenced by the fall of the Berlin Wall and the period that followed, and their contradictory experiences continue to influence their political actions to this day. The challenges of their everyday lives as working mothers are similar, but their political positions, including on women's issues, could hardly be more different.
