On air for 25 years:
When Katja Röckel, alias Mrs. Pepstein, sat in the studio for the first time in 1999, there was no way of knowing what a lasting career would begin at that moment. Shortly afterwards, a free broadcasting slot opened up at Radio Blau, Mrs. Pepstein gladly took over and added a committed feminist to the editorial team, which at the time consisted almost exclusively of men. According to Röckel, however, she did not explicitly describe herself as feminist at the time; the development came almost automatically over the years.
In the beginning, Radio Blau broadcast just four hours a week, on Sundays between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. of all days, when everyone was watching Lindenstraße and Tatort. However, good things win through, Radio Blau got more airtime and Mrs. Pepstein a permanent slot: she can now be heard every four weeks with her two-hour show "Mrs. Pepsteins Welt", interviews guests and plays cool music "without ranking and without nerd talk", as the program announcement says. Pepstein conducted her first interview for Radio Blau in 1999 with Francoise Cactus, the singer from Stereo Total who died of cancer three years ago - recorded with tape equipment and edited by herself.
Röckel earns her living as a media educator, because broadcasting herself is a completely voluntary commitment. The guest list for "Mrs. Pepsteins Welt" so far reads like a who's who of the German indie pop scene and beyond. We will gradually reveal who you can look forward to on 16.11. in the coming weeks. Look forward to a top-class line-up.
Finna
Love, anger, snot and glitter meet clear statements and queer-feminist empowerment. Rapper Finna is a grinning rebel with a huge voice who stands up for sexual self-determination, against homophobia and body shaming. A power woman who not only stands out with her strong softness and captivating honesty, but also makes a lasting impression on people's hearts.
Finna performs live on countless stages both solo and as part of the new feminist hip hop collective Fe*Male Treasure and is also sounding the alarm in the rap sphere.
Finna's debut album was released by Audiolith Records in spring 2022 - the motto here is: "Zartcore" remains Zartcore and music remains political!
Bernadette La Hengst
At her concerts, Bernadette La Hengst knows how to sweep her audience away with electro-dance earworms, krautbeat and swinging lovers' soul. The beats are fat, the charm disarming.
Political, feminist - Bernadette still knows how to unite point of view and revolt in a magically grooving way. The energy of her former band "Die Braut haut ins Auge" (The Bride Hits the Eye) still sparks a few sparks here, which are currently being carried on by her backing band - the Ladettes - consisting of changing line-ups.
Kapa Tult
"Kapa Tult come from Leipzig, their punky indie pop is characterized by lo-fi aesthetics, especially the lyrics have it all: diary-like, they sing about fears, insecurities, complicated and simple relationships. And, quite explicitly, about sex. Above all lies a relaxed, natural feminist attitude." - Martin Böttcher, Tagesspiegel
Kapa Tult is "power pop including rock freak-out, to which fun and feminism embrace each other." - Rebecca Spilker, Musikexpress
